Cast Brass 1890s Russian Icon -Skladen of Church Feasts

This antique 19th century Russian Orthodox trifold cast brass traveling icon also known as a Skladen (an icon with several folding panels) feature the 12 Principal Feasts. Each Brass panel is broken into 4 square, each one containing a different one of the feasts. The left panel shows The Annunciation, The Nativity, The Nativity of the Virgin, and The Presentation of the Virgin to the Temple. The center panel shows The Presentation of Christ to the Temple, Baptism, Transfiguration, and Entrance to Jerusalem. The right panel shows The Descent to Hell, The Ascension, The Old Testament Trinity, The Dormition of the Mother of God. When closed it shows the Instruments of the Passion on Golgotha. Over years of use the Skladen has lost most of the green, blue, and white enamel it was decorated with. This wonderful piece was originally collected in Alaska.
